The Friends of Hubberholme & DonationsHubberholme Church recognises that it has an important ministry to the many people who consider the church to be a 'spiritual home'. Becoming a friend of the church is a way of staying in contact; of being held within the cycle of prayer; receiving invitations to services and events and contributing to the vital upkeep and maintenance of the building.
Become a Friend If you would like to Donate towards the running of the church, so that we can remain viable, open and hospitable to all those who live, work and visit here, please, Donate here. |
HistoryThe church building is mainly 12th century built upon the site of a forest chapel. It was extended to the north in the 16th century. Inside, can be found a beautiful wooden Rood Loft which survived Elizabeth I's edict to destroy all such objects.
J.B.Priestley & the MousemanThe church and the local pub (The George) were favourite places of J. B. Priestley whose ashes are buried in the church yard (whilst there is a commemorative plaque within the church, there is deliberately no marked area in the grave yard).
The pews, choir stalls and chairs were made by Thompson of Kilburn, 'the mouseman'. The trademark carving of a mouse can be found in many places within the church. |
