Prayer & Worship

Be still and know that I am God

Prayer is a deep listening into the presence of God with all that we are - body, mind and soul. Nurtured by prayer, the human heart yearns to worship the creator of all things, to be at one with God. Prayer and worship form the rhythm of the Christian life, both public and private, drawing us into an everlasting community of hospitality, forgiveness, love and grace.

Daily Prayer

From the the earliest times, Christians began a rhythm of daily prayer. Praying was not simply about petitioning God, it was about absorbing oneself in the presence of God. This meant leaning to 'pray the scriptures' so that eventually they would read you, rather than you them. This became the monastic tradition which to this day is the basis of Morning and Evening Prayer in the Church of England. You can pray this rhythm yourself by following the link below:

Or read a reflection and Prayer from around the Dale.

Alternatively, you may find it helpful to establish a daily rhythm of prayer by listening to a guided reflection or meditation which you can find here:

A DALES PRAYER

May the Father's grace abound in you
as the flowing water of the beck.

May the Son's love and hope invigorate you
as the rising slopes of fell and dale.

May the Spirit's companionship be with you
as the glory of the golden meadows.
